Im a little shell shocked and the news has not yet sunk in (no pun intended)!
I received a call from my mate Mick in the boat yard and from Lorraine this morning to say that the water levels rose so suddenly last night that Wallaby Creek was inundated and swamped in the still rising flood waters.
The Burnett River level came up so suddenly last night that nothing could be done, except to fix her to the ground and hope for the best.
Details are still a bit sketchy still but as far as I understand she is sitting under the water in front of the slipways shed. Lets hope she stays put for now.
Im feeling a little broken hearted at the moment, and I' m not quite sure how to process it all yet. I just keep thinking of all the money and work I've pumped into her. Im also a little worried about my yacht insurance policy, and if it is up-to-date. Im not very good at keeping up with my finances and I fear that my policy may have lapsed. I'll know more about that on Tuesday when the offices open up again.
I'm also a little worried about my friends still in Bundaberg, poor Lorraine and Russ are still recovering from millions of dollars worth of damage from the last floods, which was 2 years ago. I fear what this flood will do to them. My mate Ash is nervously sitting the flood out in his yacht, down stream on the Burnett River. He set his anchor down stream, towards the ocean port, where the river is much wider. I just hope he has chosen a good place. The boys from the boat yard sound exhausted, and I don't think they have slept for ages. Poor Mick, Micheal and Joe must be under a lot of stress.
Im sending my friends in Bundy positive thoughts, and I encourage anyone reading this to join in.
The flood waters are still rising and I hope everyone will be safe.
Stay safe up there.
A solo, sailing, climbing and kayaking adventure, deep in the Southern Ocean. In December 2013 I will sail solo to one of the Australian territories most wild, remote and beautiful places; Heard Island. On this solo adventure I will attempt to climb Australia’s highest mountain, Mawson Peak and I will circumnavigate the islands wind swept shores in a sea kayak. My expedition will be powered by only renewable energy such as wind, solar and bio diesel, to show that adventure can be green.
I'm speechless Kelto.....so sorry to hear the news mate.
ReplyDeleteThanks mate,
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit of a bugger, but it's just another challenge to overcome. It's not my house or my health, and there are a lot of others worse off. It still sucks and hurts a bit, but I'll live to sail another day! Maybe on a re-floated and water logged Wallaby.
hope your boat can be rescued and you can set sail again, we had little problem here in cairns with the oswald system, just freaking northerlies so we got off the boat for two nights. best wishes to all boaties there
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane,
